Large schools of Redfish have of shown up on the islands inside Johns Pass in Madeira Beach. High Tides in the morning produce the best action with cut sardines being the bait of choice. Casting Live bait in with the reds we’ve caught some bruiser snook. On the outer edges of the islands the trout have been on fire, fish ranging from 16 to 22 inches is pretty common. Also mixed in on the flats are Jacks, Bluefish and small Sharks.

Tarpon season has begun and we’ve already caught some really nice fish. The fish pictured was the first one landed this year. Most of the fish we are seeing are in the bay, but some Tarpon have shown up the beaches as well. Pinfish under a cork is the ticket to catching one these “Silver Kings”

The higher winds this past week kept my fishing charters from going for Cobia and Kingfish off St Pete Beach, but no one was disappointed because the flats fishing was great.

Trout continue to be in great numbers on the grass flats and are feeding all through out the day. Small threadfin hearing or scaled sardines were not refused. Most fish were of keeper size and some monsters were caught as well. The picture shown is a 28” caught on a cut threadfin.

Redfish are starting school up around the islands and oyster bars. Most of them are in the 22” to 24” but there are some bruisers mixed in. I like to live chum for the schooling reds, but the birds have been so bad we can’t get a bait past them. To avoid the diving birds we’ve been casting a cut bait in the mullet schools and that has been the most productive method.

The big surprise this past week has been the big Snook my charters caught. The winter from a few years ago devastated the snook population in my area and they fully recovered, so seeing these big breeders on the flats of St Pete Beach is a good sign.

Tarpon are on their way and the flats fishing is on fire so don’t miss out call today 727-638-0975

Last week I ran my fishing charters up to Redington Beach, Indian Shores and Indian Rocks Beach to find trout and cobia. And we found plenty of both.

Anchoring over hard bottom I start chumming with live and cut baits to drawl the fish off the bottom and closer to the boat. Lately the trout have been the first takers of our baits. This time of year the trout are out on the beaches spawning so these are all really nice size trout. Most fish if not all were over 20″. We also catch spanish mackerel and the occasional flounder and redfish. After playing with these fish for a while it doesn’t take long for the cobia to show up.

Cobia are a very curious fish so they will swim right up to the boat to check us out. One trip this past week I had a customer say ” Hey Capt there’s about a 4 foot long brown thing underneath your motor”, 3 minutes later that “brown thing” was in the fish box. We caught 7 that day ranging from 10 -30 pounds. It’s also not uncommon catch 2 or 3 at a time because once you hook one the others like to follow the hooked fish around. Cobia have to be 33″ at the fork to keep and you are allowed 2 per person.

We are fishing a variety of ways and catching a variety of fish.

Offshore of St Pete Beach and Treasure Island the King fish bite has been really strong early in the morning. Normally I like to anchor and chum for the Kings on my charters, but lately slow trolling with large green backs has been the best way to get the bites. The fish are ranging anywhere from 15 to 30 pounds and there are lots of Spanish mackerel mixed with them.

On the flats the fishing has been great as well. Fishing out of St Pete Beach my charters have caught tons of nice trout. Starting show up in better numbers are the red fish. On the high tides we’ve been able to get them to feed pretty well. Not many snook have been caught but we are catching them. Snook fishing will get better and better as summer approaches.

Inshore or offshore the fishing is on fire! Give m,e a call today 727-638-0975

My fishing charters this week have caught several big King fish right off St Pete Beach. Also mixed in are really big Spanish Mackerel. Most of the Kings have ranged from 15 to 20 pounds, but there have been few fish over 30 pounds caught. Early morning has been best and we are slow trolling live threadfin hearing.

If King fish don’t interest you the flats fishing is heating up as well. We are still catching lots of big trout on the flats as well some really nice redfish.

Not only in numbers, but also the size of the fish. My fishing charters caught several fish over 20 inches and the biggest was 27 inches. All of the fish were caught around St Pete Beach and lower Tampa Bay.

There are many ways to catch trout, but lately we’ve just been using live bait over the grass flats. Fishing in 4-6 feet of water produced the most fish, but larger ones were in the 2-3 foot depths. This time of year the fish are full of eggs so we like to practice catch and release on the larger sized trout. You are allowed four fish between 15 and 20 inches per person, one of the four can be over 20, but it’s a good practice the release any trout over 20 inches.

Along with the trout we caught lots of Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel. Closer to the shore along the docks we caught Redfish, Snook and Gag Grouper.

Spring is coming early and the fishing is getting better and better. Call today to book your Fishing Charter – 727-638-0975

For most of the winter we have been using live shrimp, but in the last week a huge amount of baitfish have invaded our area. I can’t ever remember using white bait this early in the year, but I can’t complain because the fish are loving it.

Fishing the flats around St Pete Beach my charters have caught Trout, Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, Flounder, Black Tip Sharks and even some Snook. With water temperature nearing 70 degrees it’s like fishing a springtime bite.

Redfish have been pretty consistent as well and we have been catching those in good numbers in the residential canals along the docks. Having the baitfish has been key to catching the reds because the shrimp tend to get chewed up by the small trash fish. With the way things are going I expect to start seeing more of these red moving onto the flats.

Don’t miss out on this great February weather and fishing. For a St Pete Beach Fishing Charter give me a call today 727-638-0975

When my charters have been able to get off the beach the kingfish bite has been pretty good. Fish ranging from 15 to 35 pounds have been caught free lining live bait behind the boat. There are still a ton spanish mackerel out there and some nice flounder as well. The gag grouper bite in 30-50 feet of water has awesome, but they close for harvest on November 15th.

Inshore the redfish bite continues to be pretty good. Most of the fish are starting to move to their winter hideouts. Fishing docks in the canals of St Pete Beach and Treasure Island has produced some nice slot reds. I had some charter guest that really wanted some reds for dinner, but they weren’t really cooperating. After some trial and error we finally found a small bunch of fish sitting in a deep hole near a dock. We ended up with a 4 person limit and also released about a dozen more reds. Although the trout are out of season they are providing some great catch and release action in lower Tampa Bay.

Inshore or offshore we can get it done, Give me call today 727-638-0975

The nice about St Pete Beach is that there is always somewhere we can fish out of the wind and have a successful day of fishing. On these windy days my fishing charters have been fishing the canals and marinas in and around St Pete Beach and Treasure Island.

You don’t have run 30 miles offshore to catch big Grouper, they are right here in our back yards. Getting these big fish out of the docks is a chore and you will lose some, but it can be done. On a trip last week we pulled several Grouper off just one dock and three of them were keepers. Now every dock doesn’t hold these fish so there is some trial and error, but once you find them hang on.

Also in the docks right now are lots of Redfish, a few Flounder here and there and some Sheepshead. No matter what the conditions fish can be caught. If you would like to book a charter, give me a call today 727-638-0975

Inshore, offshore, nearshore , flats fishing it doesn’t matter fish seem to everywhere. In the last few fishing trips out of St Pete Beach my charters have caught, Trout, Redfish, Snook, Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Cobia, Bonita, Sharks, Bluefish, Triple Tail, Grouper, Flounder and even jumped some Tarpon.

With the amount of bait out on St Pete Beach and Treasure Island we’ve been starting our trips along the coast getting a nice live well full of scaled sardines. We then head out about a mile over some structure and just start fishing. They key is having tons bait because the more chum the more fish come around. The bite has usually started with some big Spanish Mackerel first, but it doesn’t take long for the other species to show up. Kingfish, Sharks Cobia, you never know who’s going to show up. On a recent trip the first bait in the water was a 20 pound King.

To mix up the day we head back in shore to fish the flats of St Petersburg and Tampa Bay for a good variety and lots of action. On the deep grass flats the Trout have been pretty cooperative and there are lots of Mackerel, Ladyfish and bluefish on them as well. The amount of redfish around right now has been ridiculous, tides are key for this, but 25- 30 reds in just couple hours has not been uncommon. One charter this past week caught over 30 fishing over some deep structure around the canals of St Pete Beach.

If an action packed fishing charter is what you want then don’t wait too long because this is the time of year to fish. Give me call today 727-638-0975
