Spring is here! St Pete Beach-Treasure Island Fishing Report

by Capt. Kevin Walton on March 14, 2011

Scaled sardines are starting to show up in big numbers in the St Petersburg, Florida area.  When I get a net full of these in the morning I just know it’s going to be a good day of fishing and my charter will be happy.

With live wells full of bait we fished the flats of Treasure Island and St Pete Beach and caught a lot of nice fish.  Grass flats in 4 to 5 feet of water produced some of the biggest Trout of the year and a lot of Spanish Mackerel.

Snook and Redfish were around some oyster bars and mangrove islands in Treasure Island and were happy to see our free lined sardines. We caught a lot more reds than Snook, but all of the Snook were 10 pounds plus. I had a 10 year old named Kade from Alabama catch 4 Snook over 30 inches in less than an hour, including one about 15 pounds.

The bite is only going to get better and if you’ve ever thought about booking a inshore or flats fishing charter this is the time to do it.  Give me a call 727-638-0975

Don’t forget Tarpon are just around the corner and  those day book up fast.
