Fall Fishing – St Pete Beach Fishing Charter Report

by Capt. Kevin Walton on October 14, 2011

Fall fishing is in full swing and if you’re not fishing you need to be. Inshore, offshore, nearshore , flats fishing it doesn’t matter fish seem to everywhere. In the last few fishing trips out of St Pete Beach my charters have caught, Trout, Redfish, Snook, Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Cobia, Bonita, Sharks, Bluefish, Triple Tail, Grouper, Flounder and even jumped some Tarpon.

With the amount of bait out on St Pete Beach and Treasure Island we’ve been starting our trips along the coast getting a nice live well full of scaled sardines. We then head out about a mile over some structure and just start fishing. They key is having tons bait because the more chum the more fish come around. The bite has usually started with some big Spanish Mackerel first, but it doesn’t take long for the other species to show up. Kingfish, Sharks Cobia, you never know who’s going to show up. On a recent trip the first bait in the water was a 20 pound King.

To mix up the day we head back in shore to fish the flats of St Petersburg and Tampa Bay for a good variety and lots of action. On the deep grass flats the Trout have been pretty cooperative and there are lots of Mackerel, Ladyfish and bluefish on them as well. The amount of redfish around right now has been ridiculous, tides are key for this, but 25- 30 reds in just couple hours has not been uncommon. One charter this past week caught over 30 fishing over some deep structure around the canals of St Pete Beach.

If an action packed fishing charter is what you want then don’t wait too long because this is the time of year to fish. Give me call today 727-638-0975
