St Pete Beach Fishing 2015 Year in Review

by Capt. Kevin Walton on January 14, 2016

Happy New Year everyone. Been a while since a wrote a fishing report so I am going look back the entire 2015.

January and Febuary started off with excellent fishing offshore of St Pete Beach and Treasure Island. The target was Hogfish and we did very well. Light tackle spinning gear with live shrimp on the botoom was the ticket to catching these delicious fish. Mixed in with hogs were plenty of grouper and various snapper. While the offshore bite was great, it was was probably one of the best winters of fishing for reds I’ve ever had. We had several 20 +redfish half days. We found most of the fish around docks and oyster beds.

It was a pretty typical spring, with awesome snook and trout action on the flats and King fish offshore. We also ran in to some big schools of giant black drum that gave everyone an pretty good fight.

Summer time is Tarpon time. It wasn’t the best tarpon season, but it was still great. Plenty of fish were put in the air and  a lot of people got their first ever tarpon. When the tarpon weren’t cooperating we were targeting snook on the beach. We had some unreal days sight casting to them in the shallows.

The fall run, a lot like the spring, was as good as gets. Nice schools of hungry reds were available on the flats on the right tides and there tons of spanish and king mackerel offshore.

December was not a typical December at all. We had record highs and the fish were almost in a Spring pattern. We were catching good numbers of snook on the flats and there were still a crazy amount of kings offshore.

Its never too early to book your fishing trip for this year.  Give me call today 727-638-0975
