St Pete Beach Madeira Beach Fishing

by Capt. Kevin Walton on August 1, 2012

It’s been a while since my last report, but the fishing has been great. My charters have caught Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, Trout Grouper, Cobia, Spanish Mackerel, Sharks, Flounder and Snapper to name a few.

This tarpon season wasn’t the greatest but we caught plenty of them. It was also cut a little short because of a tropical storm. After the storm fish didn’t seem to be around. There are still some tarpon to be caught, but it’s not a guarantee.

One constant through June and July was redfish. Nice size schools have been around St Pete and Madeira Beach. Using live and dead bait on the high water produced some great action.

July 1st was the opening day of Gag Grouper season and so far it hasn’t disappointed.

Bottom fishing with pinfish in 25 to 35 feet of water has been the best bite. The nice thing about gag grouper is you don’t have to travel to far to get them. No more than 7 miles offshore of St Pete Beach is all you have to go.

Other things going on the flats are trout and mackerel. Both fish are plentiful and seem always willing to eat no matter tide or time of day.

August is filling up fast so call for booking 727-638-0975
