Spanish Mackerel have invaded St Pete Beach like it was March. With water temps climbing to 70 degrees and staying there, schools of scaled sardines have brought some great action and we are catching fish we normally don’t this time of year.
It’s very rare that I know throw the cast net for bait this time of year but the few days I have. While calendar says It’s January the weather seems more like April. With the warm weather the baitfish we normally don’t see this time of year have showed up out of nowhere. With that brings in some species we normally don’t catch this time of year.
Spanish Mackerel seam to be everywhere. My charters have been catching some on jigs and shrimp, but now that I have been able to catch bait we have been killing them. Grass flats around St Pete Beach have produced Trout, Mackerel, Blue fish and flounder. If the warm trend continues it can only get better
