It’s been a while since I posted a report, but the fishing been pretty good. For most of the winter we have been using live shrimp, but in the last week a huge amount of baitfish have invaded our area. I can’t ever remember using white bait this early in the year, but I can’t complain because the fish are loving it.
Fishing the flats around St Pete Beach my charters have caught Trout, Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, Flounder, Black Tip Sharks and even some Snook. With water temperature nearing 70 degrees it’s like fishing a springtime bite.
Redfish have been pretty consistent as well and we have been catching those in good numbers in the residential canals along the docks. Having the baitfish has been key to catching the reds because the shrimp tend to get chewed up by the small trash fish. With the way things are going I expect to start seeing more of these red moving onto the flats.
Don’t miss out on this great February weather and fishing.
