With cold fronts moving in once a week fishing is either hot or cold. When my charters have been able to get off the beach the kingfish bite has been pretty good. Fish ranging from 15 to 35 pounds have been caught free lining live bait behind the boat. There are still a ton spanish mackerel out there and some nice flounder as well. The gag grouper bite in 30-50 feet of water has awesome, but they close for harvest on November 15th.
Inshore the redfish bite continues to be pretty good. Most of the fish are starting to move to their winter hideouts. Fishing docks in the canals of St Pete Beach and Treasure Island has produced some nice slot reds. I had some charter guest that really wanted some reds for dinner, but they weren’t really cooperating. After some trial and error we finally found a small bunch of fish sitting in a deep hole near a dock. We ended up with a 4 person limit and also released about a dozen more reds. Although the trout are out of season they are providing some great catch and release action in lower Tampa Bay.
