King fish, Spanish Mackerel, Trout, Redfish, Snook and Cobia are just some of the species we’ve caught this past week in the St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island area. We are fishing a variety of ways and catching a variety of fish.
Offshore of St Pete Beach and Treasure Island the King fish bite has been really strong early in the morning. Normally I like to anchor and chum for the Kings on my charters, but lately slow trolling with large green backs has been the best way to get the bites. The fish are ranging anywhere from 15 to 30 pounds and there are lots of Spanish mackerel mixed with them.
On the flats the fishing has been great as well. Fishing out of St Pete Beach my charters have caught tons of nice trout. Starting show up in better numbers are the red fish. On the high tides we’ve been able to get them to feed pretty well. Not many snook have been caught but we are catching them. Snook fishing will get better and better as summer approaches.
